Lupin the Third Part 6 – 03
Lupin III Part 6 03
ルパン三世 PART6
SPOILER Summary/Synopsis:
Somewhere in England, Zenigata gets a lift from NYPD’s Inspector Queen, who’d been there on business. They discuss Lupin’s apparent planned heist at the Marquess estate. Queen also chats about his nephews, Manfred and Fredric, who are cousins. Near the Marquess estate, Manfred and Fredric see Fujiko and tail her due to her hotness. They are disappointed when she enters the private entrance of the estate. However, they go in through a public entrance, where a cosplay event is taking place.
Queen drops Zenigata off, but notices his nephews at the estate. Meanwhile, President Arackney of the South Ahud Republic arrives at the estate. The Marquess’s butler greets the president, posing as the Marquess. President Arackney is shown the Marquess’s pride and joy — a transcontinental railroad that runs through his 5 km2 garden.
Meanwhile, Fujiko gets the key to the vault where the Marquess’s prized train ticket is. She gains access, but is immediately busted by a lot of armed men. Back at the balcony, the Marquess unmasks Arackney as Lupin. As such, Lupin returns the favor. Lupin escapes as the butler orders Fujiko execution via the train run over her neck. Therefore, Lupin races to save her, joined by Zenigata, who doesn’t understand what’s happening.
Lupin gets to the train and finds the real Marquess dead. Meanwhile, Inspector Queen’s nephews find Fujiko. Queen saves them, but they can’t figure out how to free Fujiko without cutting her hair. Goemon opens a path for Lupin while Jigen uses a trick shot to divert the train. Zenigata and Queen arrest the butler. Lupin and company watch from a distance.
Thoughts/Review:
I gotta say, after such an excellent start, Lupin the Third Part 6 – 03 turns out to be a mostly “meh” episode with a couple of chuckles, and a plot hole.
Boring Heist
The whole train ticket heist story in Lupin the Third Part 6 – 03 was pretty boring. Not only that, it had a glaring plot hole issue. The boring part comes from a lack of setting up why Lupin wants the ticket. Sure, the ticket may have value, but is it THAT valuable? Doubtful. Heck, Fujiko gave up the ticket in the end to reward Queen’s nephews for attempting to save her.
The plot hole part comes from this apparent state visit. The president from some country comes to Great Britain to visit a member of the nobility. There’s a huge event around this. Yet, no one notices that the Marquess isn’t the Marquess? At an event like this, other nobility would surely be invited, to say nothing of other political leaders. Yet the only person aware the Marquess wasn’t the Marquess was Lupin (and presumably, his gang).
Ultimately, I suspect this episode and heist attempt will tie into the larger plot. The Raven organization is supposedly running Great Britain. And the armed guys that attempted to kill Lupin and Fujiko were similar to the MI-6 guys we saw previously. So they could be rogue agents.
Final Thoughts and Conclusion
Let me wrap up my review with some final thoughts.
- I did get a chuckle out of Jigen and Goemon running the cosplay (fancy dress) event. Also, I got a chuckle out of ridiculousness of Jigen and Goemon wearing masks of themselves to fool Zenigata.
- I liked how Fujiko’s character was used in the episode. We get to see her use both her womanly wiles as well as her other skills. And I liked how she decided to trust in Lupin, Goemon, and Jigen bailing her out of trouble.
In the end, Lupin the Third Part 6 – 03 was kind of a “meh” episode. If it is supposed to tie into the bigger plot, the writers did a poor job of executing this.
